Ruptured Right Hind Peroneus Tertius

Initial Assessment and History

On the 5th September, our team at Equine Tendon went to go a see a horse based in Ireland. Junior was diagnosed with a ruptured right hind peroneus tertius. After a thorough examination, we could see that Junior could not flex his right hock and we decided to stabilise the leg bio-mechanically with the TendonPro DSS boot to help load the leg alongside regenerative medicine and remedial shoeing.

Treatment & Progress

On October 7th, 2024, nearly five weeks into Junior’s tailored rehabilitation program, we observed remarkable progress. Swelling had reduced significantly, and hock flexion showed noticeable improvement, supported by highly encouraging ultrasound scans.

Thanks to the assistance of the TendonPro DSS, Junior was able to comfortably progress to incorporating trot into his rehabilitation routine. Additionally, turnout was introduced within a restricted area. This progress was made possible by the proactive care and dedication of his owner, Karen and the dedicated Equine Tendon support team.
